Developing a Light Nuisance Bylaw for Lethbridge would allow people to become more aware of simple steps we can all take to reduce our impact on the local environment. By using light fixtures that are shielded, so they direct light only where it is needed, and using outdoor lights only when necessary we can help to reduce the impacts of light pollution in our community.

This annual showcase of creative expressions from youth aged 18 and under will be on display in the Community Art Gallery at the Nature Centre again in fall 2022. Over the past five years we have been fortunate to showcase 177 up-and-coming youth artists!

Creative Conversation on the Civic Culture Plan

This was the first year that Lethbridge participated in the City Nature Challenge (CNC). The CNC is a global citizen science bio-blitz held annually. Nature Centre reopens indoor experience June 11!

After six months of temporary closure due to enhanced public health measures in Alberta, the Helen Schuler Nature Centre will re-open the indoor exhibit experience on Friday June 11. On display in the Main Gallery is a brand new exhibit Built for Life on the Prairies celebrating wildlife of the grasslands. The exhibition provides an inside look at how remarkable grassland species not only survive, but thrive in one of the planet's most extreme & open environments.

Lethbridge College collaboration gives fresh perspective on impact of Coulee Cleanup

In December the City of Lethbridge and the Helen Schuler Nature Centre provided Tali Neta, an instructor from Lethbridge College, with data collected between 2015 and 2019 from the annual Coulee Cleanup event. Neta then had students in her Geomorphology class use the data to create StoryMaps that tell a narrative about the litter and the effect it has on the local ecosystem as their end-of-term project.

River Valley Conservation Projects Resume

Helen Schuler Nature Centre is now recruiting volunteers to make a difference in our river valley this spring and summer with Coulee Cleanup, Shoreline Cleanup, and Invasive Weed Pulls. River Valley Conservation programs encourage residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to pick up litter and “leave it better than they found it!”
