Shaw Birdies for Kids tees up major support for kids programs

The results are in! We are happy to report that this year's Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink was a success!! Thank you to everyone that donated and supported the fundraiser. In total our donors contributed $17,510. This amount was then matched 50% by the Calgary Shaw Charity Classic Foundation, adding $8,755, for a total of $26,265!!

Rotary Club of Lethbridge East confirms support for Inspired by Nature

We are proud to work with Rotary Club of Lethbridge East and Helen Schuler Nature Centre to present the work of the next generation of artists. This annual showcase of creative expressions from youth aged 18 and under will be on display in the Community Art Gallery at the Nature Centre again in fall 2023. Over the past six years we have been fortunate to showcase 227 up-and-coming youth artists!

Nature Play Space Kiosks Project receives funding support

We are proud to announce two amazing contributions towards nature play in Lethbridge! Recently we received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta. We also received a $500 grant from The Georgina Foundation. Both grants will support our Nature Play Space Kiosk project!

With the support of our amazing Friends we have established an Endowment Fund with the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta! Endowment Fund donations are not linked to a specific initiative or program. These contributions are invested to generate a stable source of revenue. In doing so, they help us build a sustainable future by providing long-term support of nature-based interpretive programming in Lethbridge.

Meet Davey, new teaching partner at the Nature Centre!

Thanks to the support of our Friends members, after a three year search, in August 2020 the Friends of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Society purchased and began training a gopher snake for the Nature Centre. After more than one year of handling and training, we are confident the new snake is ready to take over for Sophie, the former snake-in-chief at the Centre. The new snake has been named ‘Davey’…

We have been selected as part of the Lowe's Canada Heroes campaign! Lowe’s Lethbridge will be collecting donations on our behalf throughout the month of September in support of a Loose Parts Playground at the Nature Centre! Lowe’s Canada will match 50% of all customer donations up to a maximum of $2,000 per store.

Nature Centre reopens indoor experience June 11!

After six months of temporary closure due to enhanced public health measures in Alberta, the Helen Schuler Nature Centre will re-open the indoor exhibit experience on Friday June 11. On display in the Main Gallery is a brand new exhibit Built for Life on the Prairies celebrating wildlife of the grasslands. The exhibition provides an inside look at how remarkable grassland species not only survive, but thrive in one of the planet's most extreme & open environments.
