Prairie Smoke

Geum triflorum

The attractive flowers of prairie smoke are a nodding, bell-shape, that is dark magenta on the outside with five small, peach coloured petals inside. Flowers grow in triplets from a single stem with dark green leaves at its base. When the flowers go to seed, they turn upwards so that the feathery tails on each seed may catch the wind.

Look for prairie smoke in somewhat sheltered areas near the tops of coulees.
